Sazerac


Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 oz Cognac
  • Absinthe (rinse)
  • 1 sugar cube
  • 2 dashes Peychaud's bitters
  • Garnish: lemon zest

Instructions 

  1. Chill an old-fashioned glass then add absinthe to the inside as a rinse. 
  2. Stir all other ingredients into a mixing glass or open cocktail shaker with ice. 
  3. Strain into the chilled old-fashioned glass. with the absinthe and garnish.
  4. Note: After the American Civil War, this recipe substitutes Rye Whiskey for Cognac.
