Sazerac
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 oz Cognac
- Absinthe (rinse)
- 1 sugar cube
- 2 dashes Peychaud's bitters
- Garnish: lemon zest
Instructions
- Chill an old-fashioned glass then add absinthe to the inside as a rinse.
- Stir all other ingredients into a mixing glass or open cocktail shaker with ice.
- Strain into the chilled old-fashioned glass. with the absinthe and garnish.
- Note: After the American Civil War, this recipe substitutes Rye Whiskey for Cognac.
