Mulled Wine

 

 

Ingredients

  • 750 ml bottle of dry red wine
  • 1/4 cup brandy (can also use orange liqueur)
  • 1 full orange sliced into rounds
  • 2 to 4 tablespoons of honey or maple syrup
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 2 star anise
  • 8 cloves (whole)
  • Garnish: None

Instructions 

  1. In a sauce pan large enough to hold all ingredients, add red wine, brandy, orange slices, sweetener, cinnamon sticks, star anise, and cloves. 
  2. Cook at a medium-high heat until it begins to simmer, while stirring occasionally. 
  3. Cover with a lid and reduce heat to low allowing the mixture to simmer for 30 minutes or up to 2.5 hours. 
  4. Strain into a container or into glass mugs, adding additional sweetener to taste.
